It also traditionally covers open enemies, on the reasoning that both a partner and a declared opponent require somebody to face you across a table. It is a nice piece of old logic.
Its cusp is the descendant, which is read as the qualities you look for in another person — often the ones you do not claim in yourself.
Reading a Planet Here
