Aquarius is fixed air traditionally ruled by Saturn and modernly by Uranus — which explains a sign that is simultaneously radical and completely immovable. It thinks in systems and populations rather than individuals, holds its convictions structurally rather than emotionally, and is far more stubborn than its progressive reputation suggests.
Aquarius needs friendship at the base of a relationship and independence maintained inside it. It is loyal and consistent but not demonstrative, and it can process an emotional situation analytically while the other person is still in it. What it cannot tolerate is possessiveness, which it reads as a fundamental misunderstanding of the arrangement.
Aquarius does its best work where originality is the point: technology, research, reform, anything with a systemic view. It works well in teams organised around ideas and badly under arbitrary authority. It will argue with a hierarchy on principle, which is either its value or its ceiling depending on the organisation.
Aquarius is genuinely uninterested in money as a goal, which produces both indifference and occasional carelessness. It will fund a cause more readily than a comfort, and is drawn to unconventional financial ideas — sometimes early and correct, sometimes simply early.
