Why Certain Sequences Get Noticed
The experience is common and specific: the same number arrives repeatedly over a short period, on clocks, receipts, door numbers, and it starts to feel addressed to you.
There is a well-described mechanism for part of that. Once a pattern is salient, attention selects for it and memory keeps the hits — you notice 11:11 and forget the four hundred other times you looked at a clock that day. Repeating digits are also visually distinctive, which makes them easier to register in the first place.
That accounts for the frequency without touching the meaning, and the tradition here is about the meaning. This instrument reports what the sequences have been taken to signify; it does not claim your phone was arranged.
Catalogued and Derived
A limited set of sequences carries established readings within the tradition. Enter one and you get it as recorded.
Enter anything else and the instrument reduces the digits to a root and answers from there, which is the standard fallback rather than a different tradition. It says plainly on the result which of the two you have received.
That distinction is the point of the tool. A source that returns an equally confident paragraph for every possible number is generating text, and there is no way to tell from the output which entries were real.
Where the Practice Comes From
Attaching meaning to number is very old — Pythagorean, Kabbalistic and Vedic traditions all do versions of it, and the idea that numbers carry qualities rather than only quantities is common to them.
The specific framing of repeating digits as messages from a benevolent source is much newer, largely late twentieth century and largely popular rather than scholarly. It is worth knowing the age of what you are reading.

A Reasonable Way to Use It
The defensible use is as a prompt. If a sequence keeps surfacing and the reading for it concerns patience, and you are currently pushing hard at something, the question of whether to push is worth a moment regardless of why the number appeared.
The indefensible use is treating it as instruction — declining an opportunity or making a material decision because a number recurred. The tradition does not support that, and nothing in it is a substitute for your own judgement.
If the noticing itself becomes distressing rather than interesting, that is worth attending to on its own terms and not through a number.
