The fourth house sits at the bottom of the wheel and covers home, family, ancestry and the private ground a person operates from.
Its cusp is one of the four angles, and what sits here is rarely visible to anybody outside the household. It is the most private of the angular houses.
It opposes the tenth, which is the most public point. The axis between them is the tension between what you come from and what you become.
Reading a Planet Here
The Moon here is at home and reads as a strong domestic orientation and a deep attachment to place. Saturn reads as an early home that required something — responsibility, restraint, or absence.
Planets in the fourth tend to describe the conditions of childhood as much as the adult household, and the two frequently rhyme.
It is also traditionally the house of endings and of the end of life, which is one of the older and less used layers of its meaning.
Whose Parent
Traditional sources disagree about whether the fourth house describes the mother or the father, and both attributions have long histories.
Some systems assign the fourth to the father and the tenth to the mother; others reverse it, and modern practice frequently reads the fourth as the more private parent regardless of gender.
This is a straightforward case of the tradition not having a settled answer, and a source presenting one confidently has chosen a lineage without saying so.
