Dreamscape
An index of the images that keep coming back. A dream belongs to the dreamer, so every symbol here carries several readings rather than one verdict β treat them as prompts, not translations.
These readings come from common dream symbolism across several traditions. They are offered as a starting point for reflection β not as fact, and not as a substitute for professional support if a recurring dream is troubling you.
Why This Is Not a Dictionary
Dream dictionaries are built as translation tables β this image means that thing β and the format implies a fixed correspondence that holds across people. Nothing in the research on dreaming supports that.
What is well established is narrower and more interesting. Certain themes recur across cultures at rates too high to be coincidence: being chased, falling, losing teeth, arriving unprepared. Dream content also tracks waking concerns, which is called the continuity hypothesis and is among the better-supported findings in the field.
What is not established is that a given image carries a given meaning for everybody. The images are cross-cultural; the interpretations attached to them vary enormously by tradition, which is precisely what a fixed dictionary cannot accommodate.
Several Readings, Not One Verdict
Every entry here offers more than one reading, and that is a design decision rather than indecision.
A single confident interpretation would be more satisfying to read and less honest. Where traditions genuinely disagree β and on snakes, on death, on water they disagree completely β presenting one as the answer conceals the disagreement.
Read the alternatives and notice which one you react to. That reaction is the actual information, because it comes from your situation rather than from the entry.
What Recall Is Actually Sampling
You do not remember a representative sample of your dreams. Recall is heavily biased toward whatever you were dreaming when you woke, which is why REM dreams dominate the record and dreams from deeper sleep barely appear.
Detail also decays within minutes of waking, and what gets written down later is substantially reconstructed. This is not a small effect and it shapes everything anybody believes about their own dreaming.
The practical consequence: record on waking if you want the material to be worth anything, and treat a dream recalled at lunchtime as a story about a dream.
A Better Method Than Looking Things Up
The approach with support behind it is personal and comparative rather than lexical.
Note the emotional tone alongside the imagery, since the feeling is often more consistent than the content. Then look for patterns across weeks rather than for meaning inside a single night. If an image recurs, ask what was happening in your life on the nights it appeared.
That correlation is yours and it is real, whatever any general source says the symbol means. It is also the only version of dream interpretation that can be checked against anything.
When a Dream Is Worth Attention
Most recurring dreams are unremarkable and fade when the situation they track resolves. A few warrant more than curiosity.
Persistent nightmares that disturb sleep over weeks, dreams following a traumatic event, or dreaming that is leaving you exhausted are matters for a doctor or a therapist rather than for a symbol index. That is not a disclaimer added for form; sleep disruption has real causes and real treatments.
Everything here is offered for reflection and interest. It is not diagnostic and it is not a substitute for support if a dream is genuinely troubling you.
