Virgo is mutable earth ruled by Mercury: analysis applied to material reality. It is the sign of improvement — the instinct to take a working thing and make it work properly. The perfectionism is real but usually aimed inward first, and the criticism others receive is a fraction of what Virgo directs at itself.
Virgo shows love by noticing and by doing — the practical thing handled before it was mentioned. It is not effusive and can read as cool while being deeply invested. The difficulty is that Virgo applies its improving instinct to partners, and a stream of small corrections lands as rejection no matter how helpfully it is meant.
Virgo is excellent wherever accuracy is the product: editing, analysis, medicine, research, systems, anything with a right answer. It prefers being indispensable to being prominent. The failure mode is taking on everybody's overflow, doing it all well, and then feeling unrecognised — a cycle Virgo builds itself and rarely names.
Careful and well-informed. Virgo tracks its spending, understands its position, and rarely gets into trouble. The characteristic problem is anxiety rather than mismanagement: Virgo can hold a healthy balance and still feel precarious, and will economise on itself while spending freely on others.
