Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius

The fixed signs occupy the middle of each season, when the weather has settled into whatever it intends to be. They hold, sustain and see things through.

Taurus holds material ground, Leo holds a flame, Scorpio holds emotional depth, Aquarius holds a position. Same function, four registers.

They supply the persistence that cardinal energy runs out of, which is why almost nothing survives its founding phase without one of them involved.

What They Are For

Fixed signs finish things. They are the reason anything outlasts its initial enthusiasm, and they are unusually resistant to pressure, fashion and other people's urgency.

That resistance is genuinely valuable and genuinely exhausting to work against. A fixed sign that has decided something will not be moved by argument, deadline or social discomfort.

A chart with no fixed placements starts easily, adapts fluently, and struggles to see anything through to the end.

The Cost

They hold positions well past the point where holding helps. The fixed difficulty is not stubbornness in the abstract; it is a genuine inability to distinguish commitment from inertia while inside it.

From outside the difference is often obvious, which is why fixed signs receive a great deal of advice they do not take.

The characteristic pattern is defending a position because it is theirs rather than because it is right, and then defending it harder once that has been pointed out.

Two Fixed People Disagreeing

Neither moves. This is the most durable form of interpersonal deadlock available, and it can persist for years without either party experiencing it as unresolved.

Fixed signs also sit at squares and oppositions to each other, so the geometry agrees with the observation.

The resolution, when there is one, usually comes from outside — a mutable sign translating, or circumstances changing enough that both positions become irrelevant.
